On Friday, February 26th, the DOL released Disaster Relief Notice 2021-01, providing some long-awaited guidance on how the COBRA & HIPAA "outbreak period" guidance relates to expiring on February 28th, 2021, as many had believed it would.
The notice essentially said that the extensions for COBRA and HIPAA depend on the individual situation, and take into account variables for when the extension periods would have started, when the original outbreak period started, and when the President will declare it to end.
This is some very important guidance for brokers, employers, benefits administrators, and COBRA administrators - make sure you watch and take note!
